The Hometown Heroes program is now collecting entries for the second addition of banners paying tribute to local military members.

“We did great last time,” program organizer Pat Reitz said.

There were over 100 banners displayed down Main Street and Vandalia Ave.

“We filled all our spots last time and by the end we had a request for 122 more banners to be created,” Reitz said.

Banner sales will be until Feb. 14, 2017 or until 140 banners sell out. Each banner is priced at $100 and will be displayed for two years.

“They are the families banners to keep, but as long as we have them we [will] keep them up,” Retiz said.

The banners will be going up in two 2.5 month cycles; once over Memorial Day and one over Veterans Day. When the banners are not displayed, they will be in storage, according to Reitz.

“We have the promise of Collinsville mayor John Miller to have them up while he’s in office,” Reitz said.
