Collinsville High School teacher Vicki Fuhrhop was named an Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award recipient. She was one of 100 teachers from the St. Louis area honored.

For the past 27 years, Emerson has honored kindergarten teachers to college professors who are examples of excellence in their field.

Fuhrhop has taught in CHS Business Department for the past 18 years.

Fuhrhop is an instructor in the Collinsville Area Vocational Center (CAVC) and dual-credit instructor for Southwest Illinois College (SWIC). She currently teaches: Consumer Education, Web & Graphic Design, Introduction to Web Page Design and Photoshop. She is co-sponsor for the CHS Kahokian Yearbook.

Fuhrhop is also an active member of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis Educator Advisory Board. In that capacity, she has presented at several conferences.

“I have a passion for teaching and helping students increase their knowledge and understanding of personal finances and to become financially literate before graduating high school,” Fuhrhop said.

A special ceremony and reception were held at the Ritz-Carlton in Clayton, Mo. Each of the teachers recognized received a certificate and a crystal apple from Tiffany & Co.

“It was a special evening and I feel very humbled to have received this honor,” Fuhrhop said.

According to Chairman and CEO of Emerson, David N. Farr, the program is an important way in helping the St. Louis community to show gratitude to our community’s teachers.

“Emerson is proud to sponsor this program as a way of helping the St. Louis community express our collective admiration and gratitude for your dedication to teaching our area’s young people,” Farr said.
